On the evening of March 1, 2021, the life of 35-year-old Robert Randall Turner III was tragically cut short in a targeted shooting in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Just before 8 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 7500 block of Baleen Court. Upon arrival, they discovered Turner lying in a doorway, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel quickly began to render aid and transported Turner to a local hospital.
Despite their life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Investigators at the scene were able to swiftly gather information that led them to a suspect.
Within a short period, officers located and apprehended 26-year-old Cortez Sherrod Artis of Baltimore. Artis was taken into custody without incident, and police recovered two loaded firearms from his person. Evidence collected from the crime scene and witness statements linked Artis to the shooting.
Authorities announced that the investigation suggested the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted incident. Cortez Sherrod Artis was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder in the death of Robert Randall Turner III. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death.
