On the afternoon of April 13, 2023, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, 26-year-old Brandon D'Carlos Williams was walking to meet a friend at the Glen Mar Apartment Homes complex. Just after 12:30 p.m., as he passed a set of dumpsters, a man stepped out from behind them and opened fire. Williams suffered numerous gunshot wounds to his head and torso and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Witnesses described seeing a young male wearing a mask and dark clothing fleeing into a nearby wooded area
after the shooting. An investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Department quickly identified a suspect. Security footage from a local convenience store showed a man, later identified as 19-year-old Dominic Micah Taylor, making a purchase just eleven minutes before the fatal encounter. Cell phone location data tracked Taylor from the store, to a brief stop at his own residence within the same apartment complex, and then to the location where he ambushed Williams.
Within two weeks of the shooting, police arrested Taylor and charged him with the murder of Brandon Williams. During questioning, Taylor admitted to the shooting. He claimed that he had heard rumors that Williams intended to harm him and that he acted first.
On February 15, 2024, Dominic Micah Taylor, then 20 years old, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison with all but 40 years suspended. Upon his eventual release, he will be subject to five years of supervised probation.
