In the pre-dawn hours of March 25, 2021, the quiet of a Glen Burnie, Maryland parking lot was broken by the sound of gunfire. Responding to a call for a sick or injured person at approximately 4:39 a.m. in the 300 block of Gatewater Court, Anne Arundel County Police discovered the body of Jaylin Tyrek King, a 21-year-old male from Annapolis. He was found unresponsive, having sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
First responders from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department arrived at the
scene but were unable to revive King, and he was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives and the Evidence Collection Unit began an immediate investigation, canvassing the neighborhood and speaking with several individuals who reported hearing gunshots before witnessing King lying in the parking lot. Investigators recovered several items of evidentiary value from the area surrounding his body, and an Anne Arundel County K-9 unit was brought in to search for any additional evidence related to the murder.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later conducted an autopsy and confirmed that the cause of King's death was from the gunshot wounds he sustained. In the initial stages of the investigation, the Anne Arundel County Police described the case as an active and fluid investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Despite the initial efforts of law enforcement, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in the years following the shooting. The case of who is responsible for the death of Jaylin Tyrek King remains unresolved, and the investigation is still considered ongoing. Police continue to ask for the public's assistance with any information that may lead to a breakthrough in the case.
