On the evening of Thursday, May 26, 2022, the quiet community of Francisco, Indiana, was disturbed by a violent event that would lead to the death of one of its residents. Michael Kegg III, a 29-year-old male, was found with a gunshot wound in the 300 block of West Main Street. Deputies from the Gibson County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:45 p.m. following a report of a person being shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Kegg suffering from a serious injury. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Michael Kegg III succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His passing initiated a homicide investigation led by the Gibson County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Indiana State Police and the Francisco Marshal’s Office. The authorities began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting, working to identify a suspect and understand the motive behind the crime.

On Friday, May 27, 2022, deputies located and apprehended 19-year-old DOW Maurice Wilson. Following his arrest, Wilson was transported to the Gibson County Jail. He was formally charged with murder in the death of Michael Kegg III. As the legal process began, the community was left to mourn the loss of a young man whose life was cut short by an act of violence.
