In the winter of 2020, the community of Kokomo, Indiana, was shaken by the tragic death of 16-year-old James Carl Gray Jr. Known affectionately as 'JJ' to his friends and family, he was a tenth-grade student at McKinley School. Gray was described as a vibrant young man with a passion for life; he played PAL football, enjoyed rapping with his friends, had a talent for drawing, and excelled at math. He was known for his loyalty to his siblings and his ability to make others laugh with his jokes.
