On January 29, 2025, Malachi A. Mitchell, a 21-year-old African American male from Lithia Springs, Georgia, was found deceased inside a vehicle during a routine traffic stop near Thornton Road and Interstate 20. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that Mitchell had been shot inside the vehicle following a gun sale that escalated into a violent altercation.
