Victoria Olson, a 66-year-old female from Thornton, Illinois, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Walmart in Lansing, Illinois, on March 8, 2025. Lansing police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 1:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Olson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel provided immediate care, but she was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The Lake County Coroner’s Office ruled her death a homicide.
Authorities launched an investigation into the incident, gathering evidence and witness statements. The Lansing Criminal Investigations Division collaborated with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, the Will County Sheriff’s Office, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Following their findings, the case was presented to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
As a result of the investigation, Adebowale A. Oyelekan, a 40-year-old male from Lansing, Illinois, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Olson’s death. Oyelekan was expected to appear in court in Markham. Law enforcement officials assured the public that there was no ongoing threat related to the incident. The Lansing Police Department, along with other investigative agencies, continued to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
At this time, authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the motive behind the crime. The Lansing Police Department has urged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
