Jessica Loverdi-Finister, a 20-year-old woman from Sauk Village, Illinois, was fatally shot on July 22, 2018, in the parking lot of an LA Fitness gym located at 17365 Torrence Avenue in Lansing, Illinois. The incident occurred shortly after midnight during an altercation in the parking lot. Jessica Loverdi-Finister was transported to Franciscan Health Chicago Heights by a friend, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the case a homicide. Following an investigation by the Lansing Police Department, the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, Amari Ross, a 20-year-old man from Chicago, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Jessica Loverdi-Finister’s death. Ross's bond hearing was held at the Markham Courthouse.
