On a November evening in 2010, a dispute on the porch of an Omaha, Nebraska home tragically cut short the life of 25-year-old Adrian Lessley, an African-American male. The events of November 10th unfolded at the residence of Patricia Marion, where an argument had broken out over a missing safe.
The disagreement escalated when Kevin J. Watt arrived at the house. Witnesses described Watt approaching the porch armed with a rifle. During the ensuing confrontation, multiple shots were fired.
Adrian Lessley was struck in the chest and fatally wounded. Another man, Jason Marion, was also shot and injured in the incident. An autopsy later confirmed that Lessley died from a gunshot wound to the chest, with a total of 14 bullet wounds documented on his body.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement identified Kevin J. Watt as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, but he had fled the Omaha area. A month later, in December 2010, a Crimestoppers tip led to his apprehension in Glendale, Arizona.
Kevin J. Watt was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Adrian Lessley, as well as first-degree assault for the shooting of Jason Marion. He faced additional charges of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person. Following a jury trial, Watt was found guilty on all counts. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Adrian Lessley, with additional consecutive sentences for the other charges.
