In a tragic event that unfolded in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 57-year-old Alan Glen Martin, a male, lost his life on Thursday, March 6, 2025. His death was part of a devastating family incident that also claimed the lives of his 87-year-old mother, Rita Martin, and his 54-year-old brother, Lynn Martin. The case has been described by authorities as a double murder-suicide.
The bodies of Alan and Rita Martin were discovered at a residence on Regal Avenue NE.
Neighbors reported that all three family members, along with one other, lived in the home. They described the Martins as a family that mostly kept to themselves. The circumstances within the home pointed to a violent end for both mother and son.
A short distance away, in a parking lot on Council Street NE near Noelridge Park, the body of Lynn Martin was found. Investigations have indicated that Lynn Martin was responsible for the deaths of his mother and brother. Authorities believe he took his own life after committing the acts. While the investigation remains active, law enforcement has not released further details regarding a possible motive. As the sole suspect in the case is deceased, no arrests have been made.
Alan Glen Martin was born on July 29, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a graduate of Springville High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He is survived by his sister. A private inurnment is planned to be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, with a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date.
