Jayson Lee Jones, a 21-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 3, 2021, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The incident marked the city's first homicide of the new year.
Jones was brought to Mercy Medical Center by a private vehicle around 2:15 a.m. with a gunshot wound. Shortly after his arrival at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
