In the early evening of January 8, 2023, a sense of disquiet settled over a neighborhood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Authorities were called to the 5500 block of Kirkwood Blvd. SW shortly after 7:20 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a vehicle that had gone off the road in the 5600 block of the same street. Inside, they found an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound.
