On January 8, 2023, Mohamed Tawfik, a 22-year-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was found dead in his car in the 5500 block of Kirkwood Boulevard Southwest. He had sustained two gunshot wounds. The police discovered Tawfik's body after responding to a call at 7:22 p.m. reporting a shooting in the area.
