On May 10, 2025, Rachaun Munna Duke Vance, a 31-year-old African American male rapper from Chicago, was fatally shot in a targeted ambush outside Porkchop, a late-night bar and restaurant in the Edgewater neighborhood. The attack occurred around 1:20 a.m. as Vance and his associate, 28-year-old African American male rapper Derrell YoungginFromDaJetz Givens, exited the venue. At least two gunmen opened fire, discharging over 50 rounds.
Vance sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at Weiss Memorial Hospital. Givens, struck multiple times, succumbed to his injuries at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. A third victim, a 36-year-old man, was shot in the back and was reported in fair condition at Evanston Hospital.
Vance was identified by law enforcement as a high-ranking member of the O Block street gang, a faction of the Black Disciples. He had recently seen a Class X armed habitual criminal gun case against him dropped. Givens, known in the drill rap scene, was associated with the same group. The shooting is believed to be linked to ongoing gang rivalries, particularly between the Tookaville and Smashville factions.
Surveillance footage captured the assailants fleeing in a stolen Infiniti Q50, which was later found abandoned and set ablaze on the 600 block of East 134th Place, less than two hours after the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. Authorities are analyzing surveillance footage and other evidence to identify the perpetrators.
In the aftermath, the city of Chicago ordered the closure of Porkchop under its summary closure ordinance, citing public safety concerns. The establishment had previously faced closures due to safety and permit violations.
Vance's partner, FatFat Banks, the mother of his child, expressed her grief on social media, highlighting the personal loss and the impact on their family. The deaths of Vance and Givens have sent shockwaves through Chicago's rap community, underscoring the persistent violence affecting artists associated with the O Block neighborhood.
