Christopher L. Abernathy, a 24-year-old Black male, was gunned down in Chicago on October 27, 2011. He had been walking in Englewood, on the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue, when two assailants emerged from a gangway and opened fire, striking him in the head. The attack unfolded around 8 p.m., on a residential stretch where the sidewalks narrow between fenced front yards and alley mouths that empty into the block.
