In the early hours of a Saturday morning in Washington, D.C., the life of 21-year-old Antoine Pratt was tragically cut short. On January 25, 2025, at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers from the Sixth District responded to a call about an unconscious person in the 3800 block of Jay Street, Northeast. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene; Pratt was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services arrived at the location, but it was too late.
After finding no signs of life, Antoine Pratt, a resident of Northeast, D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene. The stillness of the early morning was broken by the news of a young man's life violently ended.
The Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into Pratt's death. Their efforts to piece together the events of that fatal morning led to a breakthrough nearly three weeks later. On Friday, February 14, 2025, detectives arrested 19-year-old Rodney Whiting, also a resident of Northeast, D.C. Whiting has since been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with the fatal shooting of Antoine Pratt. The police department had offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
