In the early moments of a summer morning in Washington, D.C., a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 15-year-old Malek Dayvon Mercer. On June 16, 2015, the Ballou High School student, a Black male, was shot and killed on the 2800 block of 28th Street, SE.
