In the early hours of Saturday, May 13, 2023, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in the 1300 block of V Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C., leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:50 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived to find an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the swift arrival of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, there were no signs of life, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was identified as 29-year-old Calvin Gray, a Black male from District Heights, Maryland. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, prompting an intensive investigation by the MPD's Homicide Branch. Detectives began canvassing the area and appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Mr. Gray's death.
In the wake of the shooting, the police department issued a lookout for three Black males who were reportedly seen wearing white t-shirts. However, as of the most recent updates, no suspects have been publicly identified or taken into custody in connection with the murder. The case remains an open and active investigation. To encourage community assistance, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide of Calvin Gray.
