On a late summer morning, the sounds of gunfire shattered the peace of a Northeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. It was approximately 10:06 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, when officers in the vicinity of the 400 block of Quackenbos Street, Northeast, heard the shots. Their subsequent search led them to the 6100 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Northeast, where they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old Victor Porras-Contreras, a
resident of Takoma Park, Maryland. Despite the immediate response of emergency services, Mr. Porras-Contreras succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a male, and his life was cut tragically short in an act of violence that is still under active investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
In the wake of the shooting, detectives from the Homicide Branch have been canvassing the area for evidence and appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible. As of now, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the death of Victor Porras-Contreras. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide.
