Chasity Taylor, a 46-year-old female, was a cherished mother, daughter, and friend whose life was tragically cut short. Born on May 10, 1978, in Cuthbert, Georgia, she eventually settled in Sheridan, Arkansas, where she became a beloved member of the community. A 1996 graduate of Green Forest High school, Chasity dedicated her professional life to caring for others, first as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Pine Bluff and later as the cafeteria manager for Sheridan Intermediate School, a role
she embraced in 2020. Her greatest joy was her son, Jason Rucker Jr., whom she considered her most significant accomplishment. Known for her free spirit and ever-present smile, Chasity was a beacon of positivity who refused to let life's challenges dampen her outlook.
The warmth and light she brought to the world were cruelly extinguished on January 22, 2025, when she was fatally shot in Grant County. In the same incident, a juvenile male, who was also a victim, thankfully survived and is reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical care. This violent act not only ended a life but also sent shockwaves of grief through her close-knit circle of friends, family, and colleagues who remember her as a caring and compassionate soul. Her work family at Sheridan Intermediate School was left heartbroken by the sudden and senseless loss.
In the wake of the tragedy, law enforcement officials launched an investigation that quickly led to the apprehension of a suspect. Jason Rucker, a 42-year-old from Jefferson County, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He has since been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault on a family or household member, held on a $5,000,000 bond. While the legal process moves forward, those who knew and loved Chasity are left to mourn the loss of a woman who was a constant source of joy and kindness to everyone she encountered.
