In the early morning hours of March 30, 2025, a house party in a west Phoenix neighborhood turned into a scene of chaos and violence, leaving 21-year-old Amanda Franco dead. The young woman, a certified nursing assistant, was enjoying a night out with friends near 35th Avenue and McDowell Road when a dispute that began inside the party spilled out into the street.
What followed was a massive gunfight, with multiple individuals exchanging gunfire.
The sheer scale of the violence was staggering, as Phoenix police later recovered approximately 300 shell casings from the area, which spanned several city blocks. Bullets struck nearby homes and vehicles, turning the residential street into what one official described as a 'war zone.' In the midst of this terror, Amanda Franco was struck by a gunshot. First responders found her in the street and, despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. A teenage boy was also injured in the shooting but was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the aftermath, the community was left reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of a young woman who was just beginning her career and had deep roots in her community. Franco was a former student and recently hired employee at Camelback Academy, where her mother, aunt, and cousin also worked. Her family and friends described her as a vibrant, kind, and loving person, and they, along with law enforcement, have made emotional pleas for witnesses to come forward. As of late 2025, no arrests have been made in connection with Amanda Franco's murder.
