James Leon Craig Jr., a 40-year-old African American man, was fatally shot inside a residence in Birmingham, Alabama, on January 5, 2025. Emergency responders transported him to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:40 p.m. that evening. Another individual, a woman, was also injured in the incident but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
