In the early morning hours of Friday, October 6, 2023, the life of 27-year-old Dyron Mays-Perry was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The incident unfolded in the parking lot of a Birmingham, Alabama, nightclub located in the 800 block of 2nd Avenue North. Just after 1 a.m., a patrolling North Precinct officer heard gunshots and was drawn to the chaotic scene.
Upon arrival, community members alerted the officer to a person shot in the parking lot. There, he discovered a grim tableau: Mays-Perry and another man, 22-year-old Jjuan Cole, were found lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. A third victim, an adult female, was also found suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel from Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced both Mays-Perry and Cole deceased. The female victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
