On August 27, 2015, 45-year-old Andre Feliciano Waters was shot twice in the stomach outside Kingston Grocery in Birmingham, Alabama. Initially, his injuries were not considered life-threatening, and he was admitted to UAB's Trauma and Burn Intensive Care Unit. However, after nearly two months of hospitalization, Waters succumbed to his injuries on October 18, 2015.
