On the evening of Thursday, February 13, 2025, Teddy Edward Lee Jr., a 34-year-old male, was shot and killed in Birmingham, Alabama. He was not alone. Alongside him in a vehicle in the Inglenook neighborhood was his girlfriend, Brittany Taylor Brewer, 33, who also lost her life in the violent encounter. The couple was discovered inside their car on 41st Street North just after 7:30 p.m., both having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders pronounced both individuals dead at the scene. Lee was known to some for his appearances on the television show 'My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding.'
The investigation into the double homicide moved swiftly. Within hours, the Birmingham Police Department's Crime Reduction Team identified and apprehended a suspect. Demetrius Walton, a 43-year-old man from Birmingham, was taken into custody in the early hours of the following morning, not far from the scene of the crime. Walton was subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with the deaths of Lee and Brewer and is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
During a preliminary hearing, details emerged suggesting the shooting may have stemmed from a planned drug transaction. Testimony indicated that Lee had arranged to sell drugs at a nearby apartment where Walton was present. Investigators found crystal meth, ammunition, and cash at the scene. It was also revealed that Lee and Walton had a previous dispute over a dog a couple of weeks prior to the shooting. A witness reported seeing a silver Land Rover, a vehicle matching the description of Walton's, fleeing the scene after the sound of gunfire. While Walton's attorney argued there was insufficient evidence, the case was ultimately sent to a grand jury for further consideration.
