In the quiet town of Tucumcari, New Mexico, the lives of two men, including a Hispanic / Latino male named Bobby Gonzales, 57, were tragically cut short on Thursday, March 24, 2011. The bodies of Gonzales and another man, Gabriel Baca, 37, were discovered in a local motel room, turning a typical day into the scene of a grim double homicide. The discovery prompted an immediate investigation by the New Mexico State Police, who worked to piece together the events that led to the two men's
deaths.
The investigation quickly identified a suspect, 34-year-old Muziwokuthula S. Madonda of Chicago. Authorities tracked his movements from New Mexico to Spring, Texas. In a coordinated effort, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, along with Texas Rangers, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, and the U.S. Marshal's Office, located Madonda.
Just after midnight on a Saturday, law enforcement officers converged on a Denny's restaurant in Shenandoah, Texas. They boxed in Madonda's vehicle and took him into custody without incident. The arrest marked a significant breakthrough in the double murder case that had shaken the small community of Tucumcari. New Mexico State Police agents traveled to Conroe, Texas, to continue their investigation with the assistance of local authorities.
