In the winter of 1975, the disappearance of a 34-year-old Black woman named Martha Cunningham cast a somber shadow over her community in Knoxville, Tennessee. An active and beloved member of her church, where she played the piano and sang in the choir, Cunningham was a woman of faith. She was last heard from on New Year's Eve of 1974, with the expectation that she would be at a church service on Park View Avenue. Her absence was deeply felt, and a search for her began.
