On October 9, 2023, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Knoxville Police Department (KPD) officers were alerted to a shooting at the intersection of Ben Hur Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in East Knoxville. Upon arrival, they discovered 47-year-old Trista Larae Denton suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
