In the early morning hours of May 15, 2023, the life of 24-year-old Destiny Rytel Jones of Clinton, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. A graduate of Clinton High School in 2017, she was known for her academic and athletic abilities. After high school, she pursued a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at NHC in Farragut, where her compassionate nature touched the lives of many.
Her friends and family remember a vibrant young woman whose smile could light up a room and whose laugh was infectious. She was a loving mother to her young son, Ke'Andre.
The events that led to her untimely death began in the parking lot of Bebo's Cafe on Gleason Drive in West Knoxville. It was there that Jones sustained a gunshot wound. Despite her injury, the wound was later determined to be non-fatal. Following the shooting, she was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Isaac D. Armes, the 23-year-old father of her child. Armes, who was intoxicated, was reportedly speeding while attempting to drive Jones to the hospital.
Their journey ended in a devastating single-car crash on the Kingston Pike ramp to Alcoa Highway. The force of the collision ejected Jones from the vehicle, and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. An autopsy would later confirm that while she had been shot, the cause of her death was the tragic car accident.
In the aftermath of the incident, Isaac Armes was arrested and faced a series of charges related to the fatal crash. In March 2025, a jury found Armes guilty of vehicular homicide by intoxication, vehicular homicide by recklessness, and driving under the influence, among other charges. The legal proceedings brought a measure of justice to the family and friends who continue to mourn the loss of a young woman described as having a beautiful spirit that will live on in their hearts.
