In the autumn of 2025, a life was tragically cut short in East Knoxville, Tennessee, when 27-year-old Nauosha Chavis was killed. On the afternoon of October 23rd, Chavis, a mother and aspiring nail salon owner, went with her husband to an apartment on Washington Avenue to settle a debt with a man named Bobby Wright Jr.
A dispute escalated into a physical altercation outside the apartment building. During the confrontation, Wright reportedly approached Chavis's husband while holding two handguns. He then allegedly struck the husband in the face with one of the firearms, causing it to discharge. The single bullet tragically struck Nauosha Chavis in the head. She was rushed to the UT Medical Center, but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Following the shooting, the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Bobby Wright Jr., fled the scene in a red truck. He was later located by police and taken into custody after a brief chase. Wright has been charged with reckless homicide, aggravated assault, and being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
Family and friends remember Nauosha, also known as Naja Johnson, as a funny, loving, and family-oriented woman who was a devoted mother to her two-year-old son. They described her as a loyal friend who would do anything for those she cared about. In the wake of her senseless death, her loved ones have expressed their profound grief and a desire to honor her memory by speaking out against gun violence.
