In January of 2020, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee, after a whirlwind romance took a fatal turn. Kelsey Jane Polk, a 25-year-old female, was found deceased in a West Knox County residence on Missoula Way on Sunday, January 26, 2020. An autopsy later confirmed that she had been shot.
Authorities swiftly identified a suspect, Robert Earl England, a 33-year-old man from Harrogate with whom Polk had recently moved to Knoxville.
England, who was also known by the alias Roger England, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. According to arrest warrants, England admitted to fatally shooting Polk during a domestic dispute at their home. His bond was set at one million dollars.
Family members described Kelsey Polk as a free-spirited and loving individual who was known for her infectious smile. Her cousin, Whitney Jefford, revealed that Polk had met England at her job and had quickly fallen in love. Despite only knowing him for a short time, Polk believed she had found the love of her life and had plans to marry him. She was so enamored that she made the rushed decision to move from Indiana to Tennessee to be with him, informing her family of the move only via text message. The couple had been living in Knoxville for less than two weeks before the fatal shooting occurred.
The case proceeded through the legal system, and court records show that Robert Earl England was tried for the murder of Kelsey Polk. The trial established that England was married with three children when he met Polk in December 2019. After a romance lasting only a few weeks, he moved with her into the Knoxville rental house in mid-January 2020. At trial, England did not deny shooting Polk, but the key issue for the jury was whether the act was premeditated. Ultimately, a jury convicted Robert Earl England of the murder. Following his conviction, he was sentenced to life in prison for the death of Kelsey Jane Polk.
