In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Knoxville, Tennessee, a 911 call shattered the quiet, reporting a suicide. When officers arrived at the Deer Run Drive home on March 31, 2019, they found 31-year-old Sherril Danielle Johnson deceased from a gunshot wound. Her boyfriend, Timothy Dion Wells, 44, told investigators that his girlfriend had taken her own life.
However, as detectives began to process the scene, the evidence before them started to contradict Wells' account of the tragic event.
The inconsistencies between the physical evidence and Wells' statements led investigators to transport him to the Safety Building for a more in-depth interview. Under questioning, his initial story crumbled. Wells ultimately confessed to shooting his girlfriend, Sherril Danielle Johnson, and fabricating the story of a suicide to cover his actions. His admission starkly shifted the investigation from an apparent suicide to a homicide.
Following his confession, Timothy Dion Wells was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Sherril Danielle Johnson. A former resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Johnson was an employee at GC Services in the Student Loan Division and was the mother of a daughter. Friends and family remembered her for a warm spirit and a smile that could illuminate any room. Following her death, arrangements were made for services to be held in her former home state of Louisiana.
