On April 10, 1988, Doris Orly Hayes, a 48-year-old African American woman, was murdered in St. Louis, Missouri. She had met Jerry Lee Little Jr., a 32-year-old African American man, through night school classes. Little was a recently paroled felon with a history of violent crimes, including prior convictions for rape and robbery.
