In the early hours of a Sunday morning in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood of St. Louis, a dispute between acquaintances turned deadly, leaving a young woman's life cut tragically short. Brittany Richie, a 26-year-old female, was found suffering from gunshot wounds on a sidewalk in the 2900 block of Thomas Avenue around 2:45 a.m. on March 3, 2024. Despite the prompt response from the St.
Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Richie was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to a suspect, 28-year-old Marissa Lewis. According to court documents, Lewis and Richie were involved in a fight when Lewis allegedly drew a firearm and shot Richie in the thigh. Authorities have indicated that another individual, a friend who is believed to have initiated the initial argument, fled the scene following the shooting.
Following the incident, Marissa Lewis was taken into custody by law enforcement. She claimed to have acted in self-defense during the altercation. However, police have stated that witness accounts from the scene did not support her self-defense claim. Prosecutors subsequently charged Lewis with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is currently being held without bond in the St. Louis jail as the investigation by the St. Louis police's Homicide Division continues.
