Naomi Kelly, a 23-year-old African American woman, was found dead on August 16, 1986, in a park in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. A single mother of two, she was attending business school while struggling to support her family. Due to financial hardships, she had been compelled to engage in prostitution. Her body was discovered with a towel tied around her neck and face, and an autopsy confirmed that she had been strangled.
