On a cold January day in Philadelphia, the lives of two men were tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence. Roy Caban, a 42-year-old man, was inside the Al Madinah Traders store in the Germantown neighborhood on January 28, 2021, when a man entered and opened fire. Caban was shot twice in the face and died at the scene. Another man, 50-year-old Eric Flores, was also shot and killed during the incident.
Their bodies were discovered by a passer-by.
The man responsible for this brutal double homicide was later identified as Keith Gibson. Less than a month after being paroled for a 2008 manslaughter conviction, Gibson had returned to Philadelphia and embarked on a violent crime spree that would span two states. The attack at the Al Madinah Traders store was part of a series of robberies and murders he committed.
Gibson's reign of terror came to an end on June 8, 2021, when he was arrested in Wilmington, Delaware, shortly after robbing a Rite Aid at gunpoint. An alert clerk had slipped a GPS tracker into the bag of stolen money, allowing authorities to quickly locate and apprehend him. At the time of his arrest, Gibson was armed and wearing body armor.
Following his arrest, Gibson faced charges for his crimes in both Delaware and Pennsylvania. In November 2023, he was convicted in Delaware for two murders, attempted murder, and robbery, among other charges. In March 2024, he was sentenced to seven life sentences without the possibility of parole plus 296 years. He now awaits extradition to Pennsylvania to stand trial for the murders of Roy Caban, Eric Flores, and two other individuals, including his own mother.
