On the night of Tuesday, December 12, 2017, Talik Kahlil Monsanto, a 21-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in Philadelphia. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. in the 200 block of West Westmoreland Street. Philadelphia Police officers responded to the scene and discovered Monsanto lying face down in the street with a gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to his mother, Atiya Wilson, Monsanto was a good and loving person who was outgoing and affectionate. She recounted that she had heard from one of her son's friends that he had been trying to help that friend who was involved in a fight. It was during this attempt to intervene and assist his friend that gunshots were fired, and Monsanto was struck in the back of the head. He had just moved with his family to a new home in West Oak Lane that very day.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Talik Monsanto. The case remains an unsolved homicide. When police arrived at the location of the shooting, they found only the victim. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the ongoing investigation. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to ask for anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.
