Isaac Olvera, a 20-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from San Marcos, Texas, tragically lost his life on October 2, 2015. Olvera was fatally shot in the abdomen during a botched drug deal at a residence in the 1300 block of Thorpe Lane. He was transported to Seton-Kyle Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident involved two suspects: Bryan Martinez, then 19 years old, and Jonathan Ivan Alonzo Guia, then 22 years old.
Martinez was identified as the shooter, while Guia was seen brandishing a handgun during the incident. Both men were arrested shortly after the shooting. Martinez was charged with capital murder, but the jury later convicted him of felony murder. Guia, on the other hand, surrendered to authorities and was also charged in connection with Olvera's death.
The trial for Martinez concluded on August 31, 2018, with the jury sentencing him to life in prison and a $10,000 fine. The court heard testimonies from several witnesses, including Olvera's family members and law enforcement officers. Olvera's mother, Corina Galvan, tearfully described the profound impact of her son's death on the family. She expressed how the loss had affected not only her but also Olvera's girlfriend and their young daughter.
