Terrance Valentine II, a 21-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on February 9, 2017, in San Marcos, Texas. He was fatally shot during what witnesses described as a drug deal gone wrong at the Avenue Apartments. According to reports, Valentine and another man got into an argument during the transaction, which escalated when both men pulled out handguns.
Valentine was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation to identify and locate the suspect. The suspect, described as a black male about 6 feet tall with light skin and a "fade-type" haircut, fled the scene and had not been found by the time of the initial reports. The investigation continued, and on March 1, 2017, two men were arrested in connection with the shooting. Damien Douglas Harris, 30, was charged with murder, and Devin Lamonte Bethea, 23, was charged with failure to report a felony. Both suspects were arrested in Missouri City, Texas, and additional charges were anticipated.
The case drew significant attention as it marked the first homicide of the year in San Marcos. The community and Valentine's family awaited justice, hoping for closure and accountability for the loss of a young life.
