Seventeen-year-old Desiree Morris, a young woman from Grand Prairie, Texas, tragically lost her life on April 5, 2016. Her death was the result of a violent and abusive relationship with her 29-year-old boyfriend, Ivan Arellano. Desiree's body was discovered in a wooded area near the 2400 block of Pioneer Parkway in Grand Prairie, after Arellano had confessed to killing her and subsequently took his own life.
Desiree's family had long been concerned about her relationship with Arellano.
They had witnessed multiple instances of physical abuse, including one incident where Arellano grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face. Despite their warnings and efforts to protect her, Desiree found herself trapped in the abusive relationship. In March 2016, Desiree filed a police report accusing Arellano of violently assaulting her. Grand Prairie police issued an arrest warrant for Arellano on charges of family violence. However, before authorities could apprehend him, Arellano committed suicide during a standoff with police in Arlington, Texas. Following his death, police found Desiree's body, confirming that she had been dead for at least a week.
The investigation revealed that Arellano had a history of violent behavior and had previously served time in prison for burglary, theft, and retaliation. Grand Prairie detectives obtained a felony family violence warrant for Arellano, and at the time of his death, there was an active warrant for his arrest. Despite Desiree's attempts to have the charges dropped, police continued their investigation.
