James Weldon Ecford, a 26-year-old African American man from Houston, Texas, tragically lost his life on April 11, 2016. He was fatally shot while trying to protect his mother from an armed robber in their condo's parking lot. Ecford's mother was exiting her vehicle when a male suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her purse, and ran towards a waiting vehicle.
