The life of Antonio E. Jones, a 40-year-old resident of Kansas City, Missouri, was tragically cut short in a violent double homicide that shook the local music community. On January 30, 2013, Jones was present at a recording studio located in the 8100 block of Hickman Mills Road in south Kansas City. The building, which was formerly an adult bookstore, was in the process of being renovated into a creative space for local artists, a project spearheaded by its co-owner and well-known figure in the area.
The events unfolded around 12:30 p.m. when an armed assailant barged into the studio. According to reports from the investigation, the gunman's primary target appeared to be a rap artist who was preparing to record. In a chaotic turn of events, the intended target managed to flee the premises, running out a back door to a nearby tire shop where he frantically called for help. Left behind in the studio were the studio's co-owner, 53-year-old Mark L. Williams, known affectionately to friends and associates as 'Maestro,' and Antonio E. Jones.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the lifeless bodies of both men. Williams had been shot in the chest, and Jones was also found deceased from gunshot wounds. Investigators determined that after the initial target escaped, the gunman turned his weapon on the two men remaining in the building. Witnesses described the suspect as a male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing around 150 pounds, and wearing a beanie cap at the time of the attack.
The case was investigated as a double homicide by the Kansas City Police Department. While the intended victim survived the encounter by narrowly escaping, Jones and Williams became the tragic casualties of the violence.
