Rory was shot while sleeping in his bed early Sunday morning by an assailant armed with a rifle. Rory's uncle, 20-year-old Jaylon Miller, was also shot multiple times
during the incident but survived and was recovering in the hospital. The family was asleep when the shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m., and the gunman knew the layout of the house, targeting the bedrooms specifically. The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored Dodge car, and police released video footage of the vehicle in hopes of identifying the shooter.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made in connection with Rory's murder. The Dallas Police Department has been actively seeking information from the public to help solve the case and bring justice for Rory. The community has also come together to hold vigils and remember the young boy, whose life was cut short just weeks before his second birthday.
