On December 8, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred in Matteson, Illinois, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Antoine Brown from East Chicago, Indiana. The incident took place around 2 p.m. in the 4300 block of Oakwood Lane, a residential area near the Matteson Area Public Library.
Upon arrival, Matteson police discovered a male victim with gunshot wounds, who was immediately transported to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Simultaneously, authorities were informed of a second male victim who had been driven to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest; he too succumbed to his injuries.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later identified one of the victims as Antoine Brown, confirming he died from a gunshot wound to the chest, officially ruling his death a homicide. The second victim was identified as 19-year-old Jaequan White from Chicago, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds; his death was also classified as a homicide.
As of now, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. Authorities have not disclosed any information regarding potential suspects or motives. The Matteson Police Department, in collaboration with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, is actively investigating the case. Investigators have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
