Larry Dewayne Kirby, a 39-year-old white male from Maud, Texas, tragically died on June 21, 2022, as a result of a shooting. The incident occurred around 7:54 p.m. in the 500 block of Birch Street in Maud. Kirby was found lying in the roadway, bleeding heavily, and despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that Kirby had been shot by his brother-in-law, Billy John Scott, a 50-year-old white male also from Maud.
Kirby managed to inform the 911 caller that Scott was the shooter before he passed away. Scott fled the scene but was later reached by telephone and agreed to surrender to authorities. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Bi-State Jail for the offense of murder.
The Bowie County Sheriff's Office handled the case, and Scott was charged with murder. His bond has not been determined at the time of the press release. The case highlights the tragic consequences of domestic disputes and the swift response of law enforcement in apprehending the suspect.
