Stephen Spaeth, a 67-year-old man from Austin, Texas, tragically died on December 27, 2022. He was found unresponsive outside his home in the 8500 block of Kansas River Drive, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. Despite efforts by officers and EMS to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Stephen Spaeth was shot by his wife, 52-year-old Trine Spaeth.
Trine was found a few houses away, still in possession of the pistol used in the shooting. She was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Detectives have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 71st homicide of 2022. The Austin Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward and contact them or submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
