On October 5, 2022, 35-year-old Allen Lee Jones of Harker Heights, Texas, tragically lost his life due to a gunshot wound. The incident occurred in the 900 block of Indian Trail around 10:47 p.m., when police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting shots fired. Upon arrival, they found Jones lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound, and despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:48 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Jones and 31-year-old
Roger Lee Sanders Jr. had engaged in a confrontation that escalated into gunfire. Sanders fled the scene before police arrived, but was later arrested on October 6, 2022, and charged with murder. The Bell County Grand Jury subsequently indicted Sanders for Jones's murder.
Sanders was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson, who set his bond at $1 million. If released, Sanders would be required to wear a GPS ankle monitor and adhere to several restrictions, including staying at least 1,000 feet away from any location associated with Jones's family and refraining from possessing firearms or ammunition.
