On August 15, 2022, German Aguilar, a 33-year-old man from Houston, Texas, was tragically shot and killed outside the Heart Nightclub on Washington Avenue. The incident occurred around 2:05 a.m., when an altercation broke out in the parking lot, leading to Aguilar being shot by his ex-girlfriend's ex-boyfriend. Two other men were also injured in the shooting, one sustaining a gunshot wound to the arm and the other accidentally shooting himself in the leg while trying to escape the chaos.
