Death by Force

Sheriff William Henry Smith, age 42, of Greene County, Tennessee, died on October 9, 1908, from an accidental gunshot wound. Sheriff Smith's death occurred when his unholstered revolver fell out of his coat pocket, struck the floor, and discharged, fatally wounding him. He was taken to a private residence on Irish Street in Greenville, where he later passed away. Sheriff Smith had taken office in September 1908, just over a month before the incident.
