On May 11, 2006, Deputy Sheriff William Birl Jones, aged 53, of the Roane County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee, was tragically killed in the line of duty. Deputy Jones, a U.S. Army veteran with 33 years of law enforcement experience, was shot and killed during an ambush while serving felony warrants for aggravated assault.
