In the spring of 2014, a night out at a local motorcycle club in Memphis, Tennessee, turned deadly, leaving two families grieving and a community in shock. Eric 'Bald Head' Whitaker, a 52-year-old African American male, was at the Memphis Gentlemen motorcycle club on Chelsea Avenue on April 25th when the evening took a violent turn. Another man, who had been removed from the club earlier that night, returned with a firearm and shattered the peace with a spray of bullets.
The chaotic
scene left Whitaker and another patron, 26-year-old Jonathan Triplett, with fatal injuries. The man identified as the shooter, Robert Taylor, was later taken into custody by law enforcement. The motive for the deadly shooting appeared to stem from the earlier incident where Taylor was ejected from the establishment. His return was not to rejoin the gathering, but to exact a deadly retribution.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the wheels of justice began to turn for the families of Eric Whitaker and Jonathan Triplett. Robert Taylor was arrested and faced serious charges for his actions that night. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of both men.
The case proceeded through the legal system, culminating in a trial where the evidence against Taylor was presented.
